New York Jets Rumors: Connor Hughes of NJ Advanced Media believes that Mike Glennon will be under center for the Jets at quarterback in Week 1.

New York Jets rumors are going to begin picking up as the NFL season will conclude tonight with the Super Bowl. The Jets have a lot of work to do if they want to be playing on Super Bowl Sunday in the near future. At the top of that list will be finding a franchise quarterback.

Without a quarterback, there is only so much success a team can have. We have seen teams overcome poor quarterback play with an excellent defense, but that is something the Jets are also lacking.

Will the quarterback position be something that the Jets look to address again this offseason? You can be sure there will be at least one added in the NFL Draft; Mike Maccagnan’s draft strategy includes always selecting at least one quarterback. But could the Jets look to address quarterback in free agency?

Over at New Jersey Advanced Media, NJ.com, Connor Hughes answers questions in a weekly mailbag from Jets fans. A Twitter user asked who will be under center for the Jets Week 1; he named Tony Romo, Bryce Petty, Brian Hoyer, and Tyrod Taylor as options.

Hughes says that Taylor is an option should the Buffalo Bills release him, and that Hoyer would be as well. But, the player that Hughes believes is the most likely option wasn’t mentioned by the Twitter user. Hughes believes the most likely option to be under center for the Jets come Week 1 is Mike Glennon.

Hughes believes the most likely option to be under center for the Jets come Week 1 is Mike Glennon. Hughes said that the Jets seem to have their eyes on Glennon, who has spent the first four years of his NFL career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Glennon started 18 games for the Buccaneers and made 23 appearances, most of which came the first two seasons of his career. He was shifted to the bench upon Jameis Winston was selected with the first overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

That pretty much ended Glennon’s tenure with the Buccaneers, and now he is hitting the open market. Adam Schefter reported in December that it could take $13-15 million to land Glennon. His free agency will be similar to what Brock Osweiler had last season, so some teams may be wary of throwing big money his way with how Osweiler played with the Houston Texans.

The Jets handing that kind of money to a free agent quarterback would be tough to stomach after they spent a second round pick on Christian Hackenberg in the 2016 NFL Draft. But, Hackenberg has not shown the necessary improvements to make the Jets confident that he can ever be the answer.

If they are able to bring in Glennon, and at a reasonable price, they should pull the trigger. Adding more competition can’t hurt and Glennon, at this point, would be an upgrade over what the Jets currently have at their disposal.
