New York Jets Rumors: North Carolina quarterback Mitchell Trubisky will reportedly be hosted on a visit today by the Jets at their facility.

Recent New York Jets rumors revolve around their preparation for the 2017 NFL Draft. The Jets have a lot of needs, so they can go in a number of ways with the No.6 overall pick. Arguably the biggest need for the Jets is at quarterback.

The Jets, like so many other teams in the NFL, are looking for that franchise quarterback. This year’s draft class is not considered to be strong at quarterback, but that shouldn’t stop teams from selecting some in the first round. One that has a good chance of hearing his name called on Day 1 of the NFL Draft is Mitchell Trubisky.

The North Carolina product has been someone the Jets have had their eye on for quite some time now. Back in December, before the NFL regular season even ended, rumors popped up that Trubisky was the Jets’ guy in the 2017 NFL Draft.

If those rumors still hold water, the Jets have a good shot at selecting Trubisky. It would seem that the Jets are serious about their interest, as they are set to host Trubisky on a visit.

ESPN’s Adam Caplan reports that the Jets will host Trubisky on a visit to the team’s facility today as he was expected to arrive Wednesday night. This is the latest step in evaluating Trubisky, as the Jets also sent a group of scouts to Trubisky’s Pro Day. They even had a private workout with the former Tar Heel to see him work out more.

With the No.6 overall pick, the Jets are in prime position to select a quarterback. While there are other teams ahead of them also looking to find a franchise quarterback, such as the Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers, there are other prospects they would be hard pressed to pass on.

Myles Garrett looks like the top prospect in this draft. He is the favorite to go to the Browns with the No.1 overall pick. The Browns also own the 12th pick, where they could select their quarterback of the future. The 49ers added Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley in free agency, so it would seem they are set for now at quarterback and will wait until later to select one.

If the Jets miss out on Trubisky, they have done their homework on the other prospects as well. Texas Tech quarterback was hosted for a visit on Wednesday. The Jets also held private workouts for DeShone Kizer of Notre Dame and Deshaun Watson of Clemson.

The Jets already have three quarterbacks on the roster in Bryce Petty, Christian Hackenberg, and Josh McCown. Mike Maccagnan has said his philosophy is to select a quarterback every year, so the Jets will likely add a fourth quarterback to their roster. The question is, will it be a top prospect with their top pick? Or will it be a late round pick just to add competition?
