New York Mets Call Up Top Prospect Dominic Smith
After trading Jay Bruce to the Cleveland Indians, it is apparent that New York Mets GM Sandy Alderson is not done making moves.
On Thursday, the New York Mets announced that first baseman Dominic Smith would be called up and join the Mets for their weekend series in Philadelphia.
Smith has been slugging it out in Las Vegas. At the time of the call-up, the No. 2 Mets prospect was batting .330 with 16 dingers and 76 RBI in 114 games.
The announcement of the move is not shocking.

The team just traded Jay Bruce to potentially open up a roster spot for Smith. New York also has a need at first base after sending Lucas Duda to Tampa Bay at the deadline. Bruce was also getting reps at first base before he was traded.
Smith, expected to be called up before September, is now officially on New York’s roster.
The move is smart. Like his teammate Amed Rosario, his first big league appearance will be on the road.
Calling up Smith is also consistent with the rest of moves the team has been making.

The team has the opportunity to see if he can live up to his hype and be the first baseman of the future.
With the New York Mets 2017 season all but officially over, it is obviously important to see how talented Smith can be for 2018.
The last few games, the Mets have shuffled Wilmer Flores and Neil Walker around at first.
The call up gives manager Terry Collins an easy decision and a more consistent lineup. Smith will play the position virtually every day.
Calling up Smith is something the fans have been waiting for since the team look destined to miss the playoffs.
The 22-year-old lefty will make his debut on Friday at Citizens Bank Park.
With the move, there seems to be no more obvious roster moves the rest of the season.
Aside from Rosario and Smith, 2017 first round pick David Peterson is now the teams highest ranked prospect, but he is only in Short-A Brooklyn.
