With all the New York Mets rumors beginning to circulate, they seem destined for a full-blown house cleaning. However, Wilmer Flores needs to stay.

The New York Mets had another dramatic walk-off win on Monday night as they beat the Phillies to open a doubleheader. The man who provided the moment, like he has so many times, was Wilmer Flores.

I know it seems crazy to keep Flores off the no-trade list, and although his name is already in rumors, the Mets should not necessarily do that, they should be doing everything in their power to keep him.

The reasons why Wilmer should be kept have nothing to do with stats. It is just that Flores possess a lot of intangible values that every team needs.

More from Empire Writes Back

For one, we all know about the crying thing. Wilmer wants to be a New York Met, he needs to be a New York Met. That iconic Mets moment might have been three years ago but it still holds up today. He also recently said he does not want to go anywhere.

Sure, there might be a few players on the Mets who do not want to go anywhere but to have someone who loves this team, when the times are this bad and the vibe is this negative, speaks volumes.

To have a guy who is proving to not care about just winning but the name on the front of the jersey is an asset that cannot be measured. It makes him one of the most charismatic players on the team and is rare in today’s game.

Another reason why Wilmer Flores should not be traded is his clutchness. He officially sits #1 all-time on the Mets’ walk-off RBI list. He is definitely a random player to hold that honor but that means something.

Imagine having someone who will almost always deliver the win when a team needs them to? Mets fans do not need to imagine anything, they have that in Flores.

Clutchness cannot be taught or learned. It just becomes something incorporated into a player’s game naturally. Flores has that gene and is showing no signs of outgrowing it.

The final thing is Wilmer is just a fan favorite. No, the Mets should not hold off their rebuild or throw it off course just to keep the fans happy, but the Wilmer moments are all the fans have right now.

Plus, the Mets do not need to trade Wilmer. I see some Ed Kranepool in Wilmer. Flores might never get the stats that shatter records or turn heads, but he is consistent in his craft and can be a Met for a while, a lifer.

There is going to be in interest in Flores because of his ability to play nearly every position in the infield. He would be a viable option for an AL team as a DH or bench player.

However, and this is definitely something the Mets owners want to hear, Wilmer will likely never become expensive. He won’t get those albatross contracts a lot of infielders get. Sure, he will be owed his deserved money but never anything over the top.

The Mets should keep Wilmer around. His most valuable assets are things a lot of players don’t have. He is passionate, loyal, and clutch. There will not be a time when the Mets do not need that.

Yes, if the Mets get an astronomically good offer to trade him, one they cannot refuse, they should do it. However, he is not a player they should dispose of for the sake of doing so of for the sake of moving his contract to save almost nothing.

I do not even think the Mets should trade him at all. But, all we can do it wait. If they do trade him they need to understand the hard to teach skills they will be losing.

Next: Even prospects don't give the Mets hope

Like his iconic walk up songs implies,  we should all hope Flores is always there for us.
