MLB’s non-waiver trade deadline is July 31st. As the New York Yankees appear to be in playoff contention, every day this month we will take a look at a player who could be involved in the Yankees’ deadline activity. These players will either be current Yankees who could be traded away or players from other organizations who New York could look to acquire for the playoff push.

The Yankees are still keeping their options open for a potential trade for a first baseman. As they look for rentals, we look at the mid-tier prospects it could take to complete a deal.

Brian Cashman’s desire to hold onto his top prospects could result in a guy like Nick Solak getting traded.

Solak was the Yankees’ second round pick in 2016 and has excelled in both of his professional seasons.

In 2017, Solak is slashing .308/.401/.462 with 27 extra-base hits and 11 stolen bases. He is hitting .314 in 154 career minor league games with a 104-75 strikeout to walk ratio.

More from New York Yankees

We talked about New York’s middle infield depth when discussing a possible Jorge Mateo trade.

That depth could prevent Nick Solak from getting playing time in pinstripes.

The Yankees’ number 17 prospect, according to MLB.com, Solak could be another team’s starting second baseman by 2019.

Potential trade partners will like Solak’s ability to put the bat on the ball and get on base. The 22-year-old also has at least an average glove defensively.

If Cashman is going to pull off another trade before the deadline, he will likely have to part with multiple prospects, mixing pitchers and position players.

MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reported that the Yankees are the only team with serious interest in Yonder Alonso. If Oakland is getting down to the wire on July 31 and needs to get rid of their free-agent-to-be, perhaps New York can offer Nick Solak and a young pitcher to get a deal done.

There’s a reason Nick Solak was the 62nd pick in the 2016 MLB Draft. The kid is talented. His talent, however, could be better utilized elsewhere.

The Yankees have already traded away their top pick from the 2016 Draft. Their second pick could be next.

We will continue our audit of mid-tier Yankees prospects as we take a look at another young hitter in tomorrow’s profile.
