MLB’s non-waiver trade deadline is July 31st. As the New York Yankees appear to be in playoff contention, every day this month we will take a look at a player who could be involved in the Yankees’ deadline activity. These players will either be current Yankees who could be traded away or players from other organizations who New York could look to acquire for the playoff push.

The Yankees likely made their biggest trade deadline splash 13 days before the deadline. However, Brian Cashman may not be completely done upgrading his team. With a few more holes to fill and a majority of one of baseball’s best farm systems in tact, New York could have a few more moves in them. Therefore, our Yankees Daily Trade Deadline Profile series carries on.

SP Drew Finley, Staten Island Yankees (Short-A), Sell

Brian Cashman was able to pull off his blockbuster trade with the White Sox without including top prospects Gleyber Torres or Clint Frazier. The Yankees’ top prospects likely won’t be involved in any future trades either.

One prospect who could be dealt, however, is Drew Finley.

New York’s 19th-best prospect, Finley has an ERA of 6.00 through four starts with short-season Staten Island.

The 2015 third round pick just turned 21 earlier this month so he has plenty of room to grow.

Known for his curveball, Finley also has an average fastball and changeup and plus control, according to MLB.com.

Young pitching is attractive to selling teams.

Finley could be used to bring in a rental first baseman if Chase Headley’s “crash course” doesn’t pan out. He could also be a part of a trade package for a starting pitcher if the Yanks go that route.

The Yankees most likely want to keep their top six pitching prospects (James Kaprielian, Justus Sheffield, Chance Adams, Albert Abreu, Domingo Acevedo, and Dillon Tate) out of deadline deals.

Not including those six, Drew Finley is the third-best pitcher in New York’s system.

Considering how deep the Yankees’ farm system is, Finley could rank much higher in other teams’ systems.

The Yankees spent a majority of their 2017 MLB Draft class on young pitching. With the new arms coming in, they could afford to send Finley out.

Brian Cashman has proved to be a wizard when it comes to making trades. Perhaps he can swap Drew Finley for a player who can contribute to the Yankees’ 2017 playoff push.

For our next profile, we will take a look at another Yankees’ prospect who could be moved in the next week and a half before the trade deadline.
