The New York Jets have signed former Chicago Bears running back Tarik Cohen on a one-year contract. Tarik played for the Bears from 2017-2021, becoming a fan favorite for his ability as a kick returner as well as his ability to catch passes out of the backfield.

As a kick returner, Cohen was named to the Pro-Bowl in 2018 and as a First-Team All-Pro as well.

The move for the Jets is a low-risk high-reward move as the Jets land a high-ceiling player without investing a ton into Cohen. The risk with signing him is his injury history, as after a dominant three seasons, Cohen has played in just three games since 2019.

If Cohen can stay healthy for the Jets and return to his prior form this, could be a slam dunk for the Jets. In addition to his prowess as a returner, Cohen quickly became one of the best receiving backs in the NFL, catching 203 passes for 1,534 yards and nine touchdowns over the first three years of his career.

The Jets' backfield has two dynamic young rushers in Breece Hall and Braelon Allen, however, neither back is known for their ability as receivers. Cohen could help lighten the load on Hall while also giving New York a different type of player out of the backfield that teams have to worry about.

The Jets have gotten more dynamic on offense this off-season

The Jets entered the offseason with only two true weapons in Garrett Wilson and Hall. The team made a massive signing landing Mike Williams, who now gives New York a capable wide receiver two that they've been lacking for years.

In the backfield, the Jets have added a powerful back in Allen and a receiving threat in Cohen. The player fans may be most excited to see is draft pick Malachi Corley, who has drawn comparisons to players like Deebo Samuel.
