Be More Competitive

More from Empire Writes Back

Lately the Knicks haven’t been competitive whatsoever as they haven’t even made the playoffs since 2012-13. With that being said, the first goal is to be a little bit more competitive.

Now this isn’t saying make the playoffs, this is simply saying show a bit more and don’t be an easy game for opponents. The Knicks have been almost a laughing-stock recently and that needs to change.

Making the playoffs this season isn’t a realistic goal and that’s not what I’m getting at. The Knicks are a few seasons away from making the playoffs, and that’s completely fine.

If the Knicks want to make the playoffs and become a winning franchise again they have to do it through the draft. But they also need to show some promise and tanking is not the solution.

With Kristaps Porzingis on the roster you have a good shot to be somewhat competitive as long as you’ve got a supporting cast. The problem is the Knicks will start off the 2018-19 season without Porzingis who recently had surgery to repair his ACL which he tore last season.

With that being said the Knicks are going to be without Porzingis for a good chunk of the season, if not the entire season. Without Porzingis the starting five will likely look like this:

To me that doesn’t exactly look like a team that can be competitive. So don’t get your hopes too high but be prepared to be pleasantly surprised with the 2018-19 Knicks who should be able to keep games somewhat close, especially if Porzingis is back.
