New York Giants 2018 Schedule: Predicting Wins and Losses for Big Blue – Part I
By Sean Dyer
Week 8
I firmly believe that the Washington Redskins got worse when they chose to trade for Alex Smith instead of giving Kirk Cousins a contract extension. I’m not saying that Captain Kirk is an All-Pro, I just don’t see the upside of Smith. He’s a solid quarterback, but we already know all there is to know about him. He’s still mainly a game manager who has struggled to win in the playoffs. The decision is fine by me because the New York Giants benefit.

Cousins never did much against Big Blue but the same is true of Smith. Washington also lost one of the league’s top slot corners in Kendall Fuller when they traded for Smith. Bashaud Breeland is also still a free agent. They brought in Orlando Scandrick from the Cowboys but they won’t scare any of the Giants receivers.
New York may struggle to pressure Smith because the Redskins have one of the best offensive tackle combinations in Trent Williams and Morgan Moses and they also have a stud guard in Brandon Scherff. Smith is also able to extend plays with his legs.
Washington added Paul Richardson in free agency but they don’t have a true No. 1 receiver or a top running threat. Chris Thompson provides a little bit of both but he’s also a constant injury concern.
The Giants should be able to throw against an unimpressive secondary aside from Josh Norman and if they can limit Washington’s big plays, the Redskins don’t have the offensive weapons to keep up with Big Blue.

The New York Giants enter their bye week at 2-6 but were competitive in almost all of their games. Big Blue also has an easier schedule in the second half of the season, which we will break down tomorrow!
