LB. Uchenna Nwosu. 31. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. USC. 3. player

With the 69th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the New York Giants select … Uchenna Nwosu!

Despite trading for Alec Ogletree, the Giants need playmakers at linebacker. The switch to defensive coordinator James Bettcher’s 3-4 scheme will put even more importance on the linebackers. Big Blue could use help at both inside and outside linebacker and Nwosu could fit either role.

Nwosu is a freak athlete with the ability to make plays all over the field. He’s a bit inconsistent but with the right coach (Bettcher), he could become a disruptive force. Nwosu has plenty of speed off the edge and could be used as an outside linebacker in Bettcher’s 3-4 scheme. Worst case scenario, Nwosu could be a pass rush specialist in 2018 while he learns the nuances of the NFL game.

Bettcher also loves to blitz, so putting Nwosu at inside linebacker alongside Ogletree is an intriguing option. With Damon Harrison and Dalvin Tomlinson clogging up the middle, Nwosu would be free to rush the passer or chase down ball carriers with his speed.

Nwosu didn’t decide to play football until his sophomore year of high school so there’s still plenty for him to learn. Bettcher could be the coach to unlock all of Nwosu’s potential and after watching some of his highlights, the fact that there could be even more is scary for opposing offenses.
