Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. WR. Penn State. DaeSean Hamilton. player. 31. 4

With the 108th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the New York Giants select … DaeSean Hamilton!

More from Empire Writes Back

Somehow, Brandon Marshall is still on the Giants. Dave Gettleman and Pat Shurmur determined that he has enough left in the tank to give another shot rather than save $5 million in cap space. Regardless, Marshall is not a long-term option at wide receiver. Another long-term question mark at receiver is Odell Beckham Jr. Although OBJ is by far the most talented player on Big Blue’s roster, he’s entering the final year of his rookie contract and after a tumultuous offseason, his future in New York is uncertain.

That leaves just Sterling Shepard as a long-term piece for the Giants at wide receiver. He’s an excellent slot receiver when healthy but Big Blue needs more receiving depth in a pass-happy league. Enter DaeSean Hamilton.

Hamilton can work outside or in the slot and was a four-year starter at Penn State. Hamilton is nothing special as an athlete but he consistently got open in college and caught everything thrown his way. He excels at bringing down 50-50 balls and consistently makes contested catches.

After drafting Hamilton, the Giants’ long-term goal should be to sign Odell to a contract extension and move forward with OBJ, Shepard, Hamilton, and Evan Engram as the pass-catching weapons.
