The Jets Have a Slot Receiver

More from Empire Writes Back

Early in the season a reunion happened. Jeremy Kerley re-signed with the team. He was the one that wanted to leave initially but when the 49ers let him go, he called Todd Bowles. It seemed ironic at the time but this is what happens in the league these days.

Kerley started out getting his fair share of targets, anywhere from 4-5 per game. He even caught a touchdown pass during the New England game. However, he was phased out of the game plan to where he received no targets and ended up getting suspended for PEDs.

However, it truly doesn’t seem to matter. Jermaine Kearse is on the scene. While he wasn’t a great choice as the number one receiver, now that others have developed, he is a great choice for the slot position. Kearse is only 27 years old so he is just hitting his prime. In 2017 he has already equaled his career high in touchdown receptions with five. He is only seven receptions behind his career high of 49 and 165 yards behind his career high of 165.

Given the chance, in the correct role, Kearse has and will continue to excel now and in the future.
