An Argument for Cousins

What does Kirk Cousins have to do with a game between the Jets and the Chiefs? Glad you asked.

How the Jets are going to fix the quarterback position is a debate that will rage on for months. Should they go through the draft or open the checkbook for a guy like Kirk Cousins? Some believe that he isn’t good enough, but on the other side, he is better than what they have had in a long time. And Cousins is a known commodity. But there are fair arguments on either side of the coin here.

Now is a good time for another one. If the Jets fill the position with Kirk Cousins, it frees them up to look elsewhere with their high draft pick, like edge pass rusher, for example. Every Jets fan will agree that edge rusher has been an issue for many years. Muhammad Wilkerson was supposed to be next in line but his dominance has fallen by the wayside a bit. It really has been a problem since the day that John Abraham was traded to the Atlanta Falcons.

Now, the Jets sport the rapidly improving Jordan Jenkins at outside linebacker. He already has a player of the week award to his credit. He lodged one sack against the Chiefs and has proven time and time again to be a guy that can set the edge against the run. He can move the pocket and pick up a sack or two but he isn’t the dominant sack master. Imagine the Jets being able to put an edge rusher on one side and Jenkins on the other.

It would actually make this front seven very hard to beat on a weekly basis. It might be worth the draft pick to get it done.
