After parting ways with Phil Jackson, the New York Knicks have found the man who will lead them into the next era of Knicks basketball.

On Friday, the New York Knicks officially named Scott Perry the next General Manager of the team. The deal locks Perry up as the GM for the next five years.

Most recently, before becoming the GM of the Knicks, Perry was the executive vice president of basketball operations for the Sacramento Kings for three months.

Perry started his NBA executive career as one of the engineers behind the dominant Pistons’ teams in the early 2000’s. He also helped draft Kevin Durant with the Seattle Supersonics and worked in the Orlando Magic front office.

Perry is one of the most respected minds in the league, as FS1’s Chris Broussard pointed out. He doesn’t take long to start changing organizations’ rosters either. In Perry’s short tenure with the Kings, he helped lead the Kings to one of the best offseasons in the league.

Knicks owner James Dolan called the signing a “culture change“.

More from New York Knicks

Knicks fans sure hope so. Dolan was also a huge supporter of the Phil Jackson hiring. Different from Jackson, however, Perry has actually had front office experience with great success.

Perry will work underneath Steve Mills, who was officially named the President of the Knicks. Both men have an eye for talent and will be working to build a team around Kristaps Porzingis.

Another thing that Knicks fans should enjoy about the Mill and Perry regime should be their salary.

No salaries have been announced quite yet, but considering Phil Jackson was making $12 million a year (and will get the remaining $24 million on his contract over the next two years), you have to imagine Perry and Mills will make less than that.

The Knicks will send their 2019 second round pick and cash to the Kings as compensation for hiring Perry.

New York Knicks fans should be excited. They are moving forward into the post-Phil Jackson era with a leader that has a very impressive track record.

Scott Perry and Steve Mills will now have to decide what to do with Carmelo Anthony before making any other moves towards the future.

Best of luck gentlemen.
