Carmelo Anthony was put in an isolation against Robert Covington. He went to his patented step back jumper and buried it with 0.3 seconds remaining in the game to give the Knicks the win. It was a much-needed win for the Knicks who were handled easily by the Cleveland Cavaliers in their first game coming out of the All-Star break.
The Knicks saw first hand just how hard the 76ers play. They need to overcome their lack of talent with a lot of hustle and they bring it each game, and tonight was no different.
New York received solid contributions essentially across the board, which was important with Kristaps Porzingis out of the lineup with a sprained ankle. Which players stepped up the most? Check out the three stars from the game tonight.
Three Stars
SF Carmelo Anthony, Knicks — With Porzingis out even more of the scoring load fell on Anthony tonight. He was up for the challenge as he poured in a game-high 37 points. He made 15-of-25 from the field, including an uncharacteristic 2-of-7 from deep and 5-of-7 from the foul line. Anthony also added six rebounds, two assists, and one block in the game to go along with his game-winner.
C Kyle O’Quinn, Knicks — O’Quinn stuffed the stat sheet tonight. With Joakim Noah out once again he split time at center with Willy Hernangomez. Both players had good games, with O’Quinn accomplishing a 5×4 game. He would finish the game with nine points, five rebounds, five assists, five steals, and two blocks. It was an impressive performance as he had his hands full with Jahlil Okafor.
SG Justin Holiday, Knicks — The Knicks haven’t had many bright spots this season, but Holiday has definitely been one. He had another good game tonight against Philadelphia. In 24 minutes Holiday scored 14 points, going 6-of-14 from the field, making two three-pointers. He also added seven rebounds and two blocks to help on the defensive end of the court.
