New York Knicks point guard Derrick Rose sat out the scrimmage portion of practice Wednesday despite not having a known injury.

The New York Knicks had a long list of players not participate in practice today. Joakim Noah was still sidelined with a hamstring injury and will miss tomorrow night’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Courtney Lee also sat out practice with an illness but is expected to play against the Cavaliers.

Joining them on the sidelines Wednesday, at least for part of the practice, was Derrick Rose. There is no injury to report on Rose but he did not participate in the scrimmage portion of the practice, joining Noah on the sideline.

Marc Berman of the New York Post shared the news about Rose on his Twitter account.

Sitting out a portion of practice normally wouldn’t be newsworthy, but with the NBA Trade Deadline tomorrow this one is. Rose has reportedly drawn interest from a number of teams, with the Minnesota Timberwolves at the top of that list.

More from Knicks Rumors

The Timberwolves are run by his former head coach with the Chicago Bulls, Tom Thibodeau, and he wants to get Rose back. Thibodeau is reportedly pushing for the Minnesota to acquire Rose, so that could be a reason why he was held out. The Knicks do not want to risk Rose getting injured and destroying a possible trade.

Rose has remained relatively healthy, but he has an extensive injury history so it makes sense for the Knicks to play it safe. The Rose trade has not worked out well for the Knicks, and it would make sense for them to cut bait and get something of value for him since he will be a free agent after the season.

Normally getting cap space would be worthwhile, but the Knicks are in an awkward situation. Players around the league do not like how Phil Jackson has handled the Carmelo Anthony situation and are turned off about playing in New York.

While free agents may not want to sign with the Knicks, they can still acquire talent via trade. If the Knicks are to make a trade with the Timberwolves, they will probably be getting back Ricky Rubio. While he is a flawed player, he gives the Knicks some positives at the point guard spot and assures them of turning the Rose situation into something of value.
