Number Five: Finding Eli’s Successor

Reese noted a few weeks ago that the main focus of this offseason is finding the quarterback that will take the reigns from Eli Manning when he decides to hang it up. Reese said that Manning is 36, and he knows that he needs to find the next in line. Personally, I think Reese is trying to take attention away from the fact that Jason Pierre-Paul wants a big contract, but nonetheless, it is about time to find Eli’s successor.

I’ve never believed Ryan Nassib to be the next Giants quarterback, and the fact that both he and Josh Johnson are free agents this year further proves my point. There is no doubt in my mind that the Giants will let Nassib walk, and look to this year’s or next year’s draft to find the team’s next quarterback.

The Giants need their early round picks to address the offensive line issues, and to add to the pass rush. There’s no reason to take an early-round quarterback, and there is not enough significant quarterback talent to take a shot in an early round.

There’s not much quarterback depth in this draft, and that is why I am looking to 2018 to bring the Giants the man of the future. With guys like Mason Rudolph, Baker Mayfield, and Lamar Jackson likely to enter the draft in 2018, there is a better shot of the Giants finding their next in line in 2018, and that is why I wouldn’t call it much of a concern this offseason.
