Cornerback Janoris Jenkins is unsure of his chances of playing in the regular season finale but gave a more concrete answer regarding his status for the postseason.

New York Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins had an injury scare in Week 15 against the Detroit Lions. The Giants’ lockdown corner suffered some friendly fire when defending Lions’ tight end Eric Ebron. Diving to break up a pass, fellowing cornerback Trevin Wade kneed him in the back.

The injury was originally ruled a back injury, but the Giants feared that there could be some internal injuries to Jenkins’ organs. He underwent tests on the Monday following the game and everything came back clean.

Despite the tests coming back clean, Jenkins was unable to suit up for the Giants in Week 16. The Giants played in the final Thursday Night Football game of the season against the Philadelphia Eagles and Jenkins was forced to watch from the sidelines. Jenkins worked out for Giants’ decision makers prior to the Eagles game but they determined he was not ready enough to play.

The Giants are set to wrap up their season in Week 17 against the Washington Redskins but they are unsure once again if Jenkins will suit up. It is a meaningless game for the Giants as they are locked into the No.5 seed in the NFC. The Redskins need a win to make the postseason; will they get a gift from the Giants and have Jenkins sit for a second consecutive game?

When asked about his status for this week Jenkins didn’t provide much of an answer.

More from New York Giants

"“I ain’t going to say yeah. I ain’t going to say no,” Jenkins said. “Just preparing on getting ready and take this week as a game week as if I’m starting. I don’t know the call or whatever. I’m just going to continue to come out.”"

Head coach Ben McAdoo also talked about Jenkins’ status heading into the game. He didn’t provide a definitive answer either, but gave some more insight.

"“We’ll have to see if he’s ready to go,” McAdoo said on Wednesday. “This is pro football. We get paid to coach and paid to play. That’s what we do. It’s what we do for a living. Another game on the schedule, it’s a division game, it’s an important game.”"

That sounds like a lot of coach speak. Calling this an important game is a tough one to sell as the Giants have nothing to gain or lose in the standings; only bad things could happen such as players getting injured. Pushing Jenkins even if he is the slight bit not ready would not make sense.

McAdoo is not going to show his hand this early in the week, though. We will probably not know until Sunday when the inactive list is shared if Jenkins is going to be on the field or not. Getting him some reps makes sense if he is healthy, but if there is any doubt he should sit out against the Redskins.

While Jenkins was noncommittal on Week 17, he gave a more definitive answer in regards to Wild Card weekend. “I’ll go in there feeling the way I need to feel,” Jenkins said with confidence.
