New York Giants: Former Head Coach Tom Coughlin On Buffalo Bills Radar
Former New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin has been linked to the head coaching job for the Buffalo Bills.
When the New York Giants and Tom Coughlin parted ways following the 2015 season some rumors popped up about Coughlin wanting to get back into coaching. He interviewed with the Philadelphia Eagles, but it reportedly did not go well. Part of the reason was because he was unable to build a staff in a timely manner since so many assistants were retained by the Giants.
But, the fire still burned in Coughlin to coach. Unfortunately for him, jobs just did not open that were a good fit. As a result, Coughlin landed a job within the NFL offices after considering some broadcasting opportunities.
As we now enter into the final week of the 2016 regular season, the coaching carousel is going to begin. We have already seen multiple coaches fired this season. The Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Rams, and Buffalo Bills will all have new head coaches in 2017. A couple of more teams could join that list as well, so we can see Coughlin’s name come up once again.

He has already been linked to the Jaguars job. Coughlin began his NFL head coaching career with the Jaguars at the franchise’s inception in 1995. He coached there for eight seasons before moving on to the Giants job. He had a record of 58-50 with the Jaguars and 102-90 with the Giants.
If the team does not add Coughlin as their next head coach, they are still interested in bringing him back to the organization. Charles Robinson, on his Twitter account, reports that the Jaguars could still bring Coughlin back in a front office role with the team should he not be pursued as head coach.
In addition to the Jaguars organization rumors, Coughlin is also being talked about in regards to the Bills vacancy. Jason Cole of Bleacher Report said that Coughlin is one of the top candidates for the job, in addition to Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin and current offensive coordinator and interim head coach, Anthony Lynn.
Coughlin would bring a lot of experience and success along with him to Buffalo, something they haven’t had in a long time. He would be the polar opposite of Rex Ryan in many ways as well, such as how he carries himself in the media.
But, at 70-years old, it is fair to question how legitimate of a chance he has at being named head coach. This is the type of job he would probably like. This is far from a rebuild, as the Bills are right on the cusp of being a playoff team.
They have some really strong pieces in place defensively and an outstanding running game in place. Quarterback is a huge question mark going forward as there is no guarantee that Tyrod Taylor returns under center.

But, there are some solid pieces in place that a coach would like to take over. The question remains, though, if Coughlin is that coach.
