Former New York Giants head coach has found a new job outside of coaching, joining the NFL’s football operations department.

Former New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin has landed a new job to keep him busy. He will be joining the NFL’s football operations department according to multiple sources that were in touch with ESPN and Jim Trotter.

Coughlin ‘resigned’ as head coach of the Giants just six months ago, and he will now be joining the NFL for a job. This is not where many people would have guessed where Coughlin would wind up, as there were a number of rumors about potential jobs after he and the Giants parted ways.

Coughlin interviewed for a couple of head coaching vacancies this offseason, including the rival Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers. Nothing came to fruition from those talks, as Coughlin was unable to put together much of a staff to present to the Eagles; many of his coordinators and coaches are being retained by the Giants to work under new head coach, Ben McAdoo.

There were reports that Coughlin had bombed his interview with the Eagles, as he was still feeling scorned by the Giants. The interview did not go well, as he was unable to present how he would help the Eagles, instead concentrating on how he would make the Giants look bad.

More from New York Giants

It was not a good look for Coughlin, who was one of the most respected coaches in the NFL. Despite the Eagles interview not going as well as he had hoped, he is still hoping to land an NFL coaching job at some point. The itch is there for Coughlin, but it remains to be seen if there is a team that will scratch it.

There were also talks that Coughlin could wind up on television or in some type of broadcasting. This would have been an excellent role for Coughlin, as he has as much football knowledge as anyone on television, coaching the last 12 seasons with the Giants and eight seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

But, we will not see Coughlin in any of those roles for the time being, as the job in the NFL’s football operations department is full-time. His exact role has not been announced yet, but he will bring a ton of knowledge along with him to whatever it is.

Despite there seeming to be some hard feelings between Coughlin and the Giants right now, time should heal that over time. He did lead the team to two Super Bowl titles over the New England Patriots in 2007 and 2011, and should find himself recognized by the team sooner than later in their ring of honor.
