New York Giants Select D’Onta Foreman In Todd McShay Mock Draft
The New York Giants select Texas running back D’Onta Foreman with their first round pick in Todd McShay’s 2017 NFL Mock Draft.
The New York Giants are in the midst of a playoff race. They defeated the Dallas Cowboys last week to gain some momentum in the final three weeks of the season. They have a slim shot of chasing down the Cowboys for the NFC East title, but a Wild Card spot is within grasp.
While the Giants will be focusing on winning games in the coming weeks, some teams have already begun evaluating their rosters for 2017. Arguably the biggest event of the NFL Offseason is the NFL Draft.
The Giants, hopefully, will not be giving their undivided attention to the NFL Draft for multiple weeks. But, that will not stop some people from making Mock Drafts. Despite the NFL Draft order not close to being set, people have already begun mocking the 2017 draft.

ESPN’s Todd McShay released his first 2017 NFL Mock Draft earlier this week. There will be a lot of changes between now and April 27th, 2017, when the NFL Draft will take place. But, mock drafts are something that will also stir up a conversation and draw attention as fans want to see which players could be heading to their favorite teams this upcoming spring.
In his first mock draft, McShay has the Giants in the 25th based on ESPN’s Football Power Index. With the 25th overall pick, McShay has the Giants selected Texas Longhorns running back D’Onta Foreman.
Here is what McShay had to say about Foreman landing with the Giants.
"Foreman is one of the most underrated prospects in this class. You can tell by looking at him that he’s a load to bring down (6-1, 249), but what makes him special are his quick feet. Foreman, who led the FBS in rushing this season with 2,028 yards, also has some ability as a blocker and pass-catcher."
The Giants offensive line has been a big problem in the running game in recent seasons. But, a talent deficiency at the position has been a problem as well. Rashad Jennings has shown flashes the past three seasons but has not given the Giants consistent production on the ground in early down situations.
Foreman has excellent size as McShay points out and is plenty athletic enough to succeed at the NFL level. This season was the first time that he was given the featured back role and he ran with it, literally. He averaged 6.3 yards and scored 15 times on the ground. Those are impressive numbers as he carried the Longhorns offense by himself for large chunks of the season.
He recorded only seven receptions for 75 yards, so he still has to prove that he can handle work on all three downs in the NFL. But, there is no denying the impact he could have as the lead back in a committee on first and second down.
Foreman is rated as the third running back in this class behind Leonard Fournette and Dalvin Cook. If the Giants are able to land a player of his caliber this late in the first round they would come away very happy.

Selecting a running back in the first round is always a gamble with how the NFL landscape has changed, but the Giants could definitely use some help in the backfield with how it is currently situated.
