Giants: Prince Amukamara In Danger Of Missing Game vs. Eagles?
The New York Giants are building some momentum, winning their third straight game this past weekend when they defeated the San Francisco 49ers. It ran their record to 3-2 on the season and vaulted them into first place in the NFC East. But, it could have come at a cost, as starting cornerback Prince Amukamara was injured in the game.

Amukamara was injured at some point during the game against the 49ers on Sunday Night Football in Week 5, missing a handful of plays. But, he was able to return to the field and finish the game. There were no problems indicated after the game that there could be some trouble, but it seems that he is dealing with something.
The severity of the injury is not yet known, but according to Dan Graziano of ESPN New York, sources told ESPN that Amukamara’s status for Monday is in doubt. While the extent of the injury is not yet known, it is still not good that people are reporting that he could miss what is an extremely important game in Week 6.

The Giants will be traveling to take on their NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles high powered offense got off to a slow start, but since getting their first win of the season in Week 3 against the New York Jets, the Eagles offense has really gotten going. This past week they really got things going, as the racked up 39 points and 519 yards on the New Orleans Saints.
This is a huge game coming up this week, and not having Amukamara out there would be a huge blow to the Giants. They were able to overcome numerous injuries in the front seven against the 49ers, but replacing Amukamara would be a totally different story. The Giants are already one of the worst teams at defending the pass in the NFL already, giving up an NFL worst 304 yards per game.
That isn’t an indictment on Amukamara and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, but it speaks to what the Giants have been forced to do this season. Without any semblance of a pass rush, Steve Spagnuolo has been forced to call a lot of blitzes, leaving Amukamara and Rodgers-Cromartie on islands playing one-on-one defense. They have done their jobs this season, and having to replace Amukamara like they had to do to Rodgers-Cromartie against the Washington Redskins will not be easy.
Unlike the Redskins, the Eagles offense has what could be a strong aerial attack with Sam Bradford at the helm and weapons such as Jordan Matthews, Zach Ertz and Darren Sproles. While the Eagles are only averaging 246 yards passing per game, they have really gotten things going the last two weeks, averaging 301.5 yards per game.
Playing without Amukamara against a hot offense and with no pass rush is a recipe for disaster. Tom Coughlin will release more news regarding his starting cornerback when the Giants resume practice Thursday, and hopefully the news is more positive than it has been thus far this week.
