MLB’s non-waiver trade deadline is July 31st. As the New York Yankees appear to be in playoff contention, every day this month we will take a look at a player who could be involved in the Yankees’ deadline activity. These players will either be current Yankees who could be traded away or players from other organizations who New York could look to acquire for the playoff push.

We continue our profiles with another Yankees prospect who is Rule 5 eligible. In the middle of a breakout campaign in Double-A, this prospect could find himself dealt at the trade deadline.

INF Thairo Estrada, Trenton Thunder (AA), Sell

Thairo Estrada is having a great season at the plate for the Trenton Thunder.

Estrada is hitting .308 with 23 extra-base hits and a 41-26 strikeout to walk ratio.

Known for his plus glove, Estrada also has a plus arm and plus speed.

Despite being in the Yankees loaded farm system, Estrada still ranks 23rd on MLB.com’s top 30 prospects list.

More from New York Yankees

We’ve talked many times about New York’s crowded outfield but the Yanks are also loaded with middle infield talent.

As good as Estrada has been, he ranks well behind top prospect Gleyber Torres, Tyler Wade, Jorge Mateo, and even Nick Solak in the Yankees system. Not to mention Didi Gregorius and Starlin Castro look like they’ll man the middle infield in the Bronx for the foreseeable future.

With no clear path to the majors with New York and his Rule 5 eligibility fast approaching, the 21-year-old is a strong candidate to be traded at the deadline.

Estrada could be the mid-tier prospect in a trade package, similar to what Tito Polo was in the Yankees deal with the White Sox.

Thairo Estrada could rank higher and have a clearer path to the bigs with another organization.

We talked about the roster crunch that Brian Cashman will be dealing with this winter and Estrada could be one of the players on the chopping block.

By trading him now, the Yankees avoid losing him for nothing in the Rule 5 Draft.
