New York Jets Rumors: Early Push To Be Made For Mike Glennon
New York Jets Rumors: With a need for a quarterback, the Jets are expected to make a big push for Mike Glennon.
New York Jets rumors are going to pick up in the coming days. With free agency on the cusp of beginning, there will be plenty of rumors swirling about moves teams can make. The Jets head into free agency with needs across virtually the whole roster.
The Jets are in a clear youth movement and rebuild. They started purging their roster of veterans and long-time Jets alike, as Nick Mangold, Darrelle Revis, Brandon Marshall, Nick Folk, Ryan Clady, Breno Giacomini, and Erin Henderson were all handed pink slips already this offseason.
While the Jets will need to replace some of those players, the position at the top of the needs list for the Jets is a quarterback. Unfortunately for the Jets the quarterback class in free agency and in the draft are rather weak. The Jets are unlikely to find their franchise quarterback this offseason, but could find someone to at least help bridge the gap.

With Ryan Fitzpatrick and Geno Smith, both free agents the Jets are left with Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg as the only quarterbacks on the roster. That means the Jets will be adding at least one quarterback, and probably in free agency. Adding another youngster makes little sense, but bringing in a veteran with experience would make sense.
One name to keep an eye on for the Jets in free agency is Mike Glennon. The Jets have been rumored to be interested in Glennon already this offseason, and Tony Pauline of Draft Analyst says the same.
According to Pauline, the Jets are planning to make a big push for Glennon once free agency begins on March 9th. This makes sense as Glennon is arguably the best of the bunch in free agency this season. But, the Jets will not be alone.
Pauline also reports that the Chicago Bears will also be making a push for Glennon. People at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis believe that Glennon will be wearing a Bears uniform in 2017.
Glennon has spent the first four seasons of his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But, with Jameis Winston as the franchise quarterback, there is no need for Glennon in Tampa Bay. Glennon should find do great on the free agent market as well.
Not only should he land in an opportunity to start again, he should get a nice paycheck. Charles Robinson, a Senior NFL Reporter for Yahoo, reports on his Twitter account that Glennon could land $14-15 million on the open market.
That is a lot of money for someone who hasn’t started a game since 2014. Teams are desperate to land a quarterback, though, and Glennon could provide a team a better chance to win in 2017 with him under center.
Will that team be the Jets? While they want to make an aggressive push for Glennon, it would seem unlikely for them to hand out that kind of money to a quarterback.

There are plenty other holes on the roster and Glennon isn’t going to push the Jets into a playoff spot. Add in the fact they just spent a second-round pick on a quarterback last season and giving Glennon a big deal sounds like it would be out of the question.
