The New York Yankees currently sit at 49-22 atop the American League East and MLB standings. This season has been incredible thus far for the Yankees, as key off-season additions have been paying off, while the team has yet to have Gerrit Cole on the mound.

Heading into the trade deadline, the Yankees are expected to be all-in as they look to win the World Series before Juan Soto hits free agency.

At the trade deadline, the Yankees may have to overpay as the farm system has been depleted with Jasson Dominguez and Anthony Volpe becoming key pieces, while off-season trades also dealt the system a blow.

One of the pieces most expected to be a trade deadline chip was outfielder Everson Pereira. The outfielder is ranked as the Yankees' fifth-best prospect, while the top duo of prospects Spencer Jones and Dominguez are likely untouchable.

However, the Yankees' trade deadline packages likely took a hit on Friday as it was announced that Everson Pereira underwent surgery to repair a torn UCL.

At first, it was reported that the top prospect needed the surgery. But manager Aaron Boone revealed Pereira had undergone surgery a few weeks ago.

The Yankees called up Pereira at the end of last season where he showed flashes at times but, struggled with a .151 batting average. This season in the minor leagues, Pereira was batting .265 with 10 home runs.

Where do the Yankees need help?

The Yankees will have to make a few moves this trade deadline to truly be comfortable heading into the postseason. The team needs bullpen help as the group has undergone massive changes over the past few seasons, while pieces like Jonathan Loaisiga and Scott Effross are out long-term.

The Yankees will also need to pursue a first baseman as Anthony Rizzo has struggled throughout this season. Overall, the Yankees don't need much, but they do need to make a few key moves.
