Could both New York teams engage in trade discussions ahead of the July 30th MLB trade deadline? If they do, it won't be a surprise. By the way things are looking, it could possibly happen. The New York Mets haven't been playing their best baseball as of late. The team has fallen over to a season-worst record of 22-32 and is now at risk of entering the month of June double-digit games under .500 for the first time in 23 years. If this trend continues, they might as well consider going under a fire sale once the trade deadline arrives.

While the New York Yankees on the other hand are playing their best baseball. They currently sit in first place in the American League East with a record of 37-19. The team leads Baltimore by half a game in the standings. Though they do trail the Cleveland Guardians by half a game for the best record in the American League.

Getting to the point, here are three trades the Yankees can make with the Mets.

1. Acquire Luis Severino

If there's one pitcher the Yankees might express interest in, it's Luis Severino. Thus far, he's having a solid season in a Mets uniform. In 10 starts this season, he has posted a record of 2-2 with an ERA of 3.22 and 50 strikeouts.

It seems like he is the most consistent starter for the Mets this season. If the Yankees get him back, it probably won't be as a starting pitcher but rather for a role in the bullpen. The Yankees have had some struggles in the backend of the bullpen, and Severino could be a solution to that problem.

Even better, the price won't come as heavy as many think. The Mets might ask for a low-end prospect, which shouldn't be a problem for the Yankees, as they're considered to be one of the top farm systems in baseball.
