Spring Training is in full swing and while Juan Soto has understandably received all the attention on the New York Yankees, there is one prospect who has been shining brighter than the rest. The Yankees' first-round pick in the 2022 MLB Draft, Spencer Jones has been making a case for himself as the best young player in the organization.

His performance has impressed the Yankees top brass so much that they made the 22-year-old center fielder untouchable in trade talks.

Top Yankees Prospect Deemed Untouchable in Trade Talks

According to Brendan Kuty of The Athletic, the left-handed slugger's name has been coming up in trade talks between the Yankees and rival teams. And that has been a sticking point for the pinstripes.

This is a challenge for a Yankees team trying to make win-now moves to make it back to the World Series. They are especially thin in their pitching rotation. However, they don't want to give up a young asset they consider to have star upside.

The Chicago White Sox wanted New York to include Jones in a trade package for starting pitcher Dylan Cease while the Milwaukee Brewers requested him in a deal for starter Corbin Burnes. The Yankees didn't want to trade Jones to either team. Instead, they are looking for pitching upgrades in free agency.

This can be understandable from the Yankees' perspective. Current Yankees advisor Nick Swisher has called Jones "an absolute monster". The young outfielder has showcased this with his towering 470 ft. home run over the weekend. His physical gifts, strength, and athleticism are reminiscent of a young Aaron Judge.

The Yankees have a lot of questions about their outfield past this season. How quickly Jones can climb up and make his way into the big club remains to be seen but the pipeline is alive and well for the Yankees.

The Bronx Bombers currently have the fourth-best odds in baseball (+800) to win the 2024 World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
