There is One Thing That Aaron Boone Can Do to Save His Job

Despite starting with no coaching experience, Aaron Boone has proved to be a vital leader for the Yankees. However, if he wants to keep his job, he needs to win a championship.

The New York Yankees' last World Series win came in 2009 when they defeated the defending champions Philadelphia Phillies. After collecting championship number 27, the Bronx Bomber completed 14 years without appearing in the World Series. Despite having a winning record every season since then, the Yankees couldn't get the job done.

In 2017, the Yankees were one game away from advancing to the World Series but lost to the eventual champions Houston Astros in seven games. After losing, General Manager Brian Cashman moved on from manager Joe Girardi. After nine seasons and one championship, Cashman said that a fresh voice was needed.

In December 2017, the Yankees made an interesting move by hiring Aaron Boone as the next manager. This news sent shockwaves due to Boone’s lack of coaching experience. Despite having not coached in the Major Leagues, his winning percentage is about .587.

In his six years as manager, Boone made it to the playoffs five times. For the first time in 2023, the Yankees missed the playoffs with a record of 82 wins and 80 losses.

After speculation that the Yankees might go in a different direction again, Cashman and Hal Steinbrenner decided to retain the services of Aaron Boone. While the announcement evoked mixed emotions, the pressure of winning a championship now is at an all-time high.

Is Aaron Boone on the hot seat? How must he maintain his role for the next season?

After Joe Girardi was let go despite a winning record and making the playoffs in 2017, that was not good enough anymore. Although Boone has a record of 509 wins and 361 losses going into the 2024 season, having a winning record will not cut it. He needs to win the World Series.

From 1996 to 2009, the Yankees won five championships. From 2010 to 2023, they won none. With a rich history connected to the Bronx Bombers, the expectations are higher for the Yankees.

The Yankees entered the 2024 season sweeping the Houston Astros. Although the Yankees are off to a hot start already, the season is still young. Boone must maintain a healthy roster, great communication, and smart in-game decisions. If Boone and his staff cannot win a championship this year, it shouldn't be a shock if the Yankees have another manager taking the lead in 2025.

Fortunately for them, they are currently the AL favorites with +360 odds after their hot start.
