Jazz Chisholm getting hurt was not ideal, especially with an injury to his UCL. 10 days later he returned to the line up, and it is exactly what the Yankees need.

On July 27th, the Yankees pulled the trigger on a trade with the Miami Marlins that saw Jazz Chisholm Jr. go from Miami to Pinstripes while Brian Cashman sent prospects Agustin Ramirez, Jared Serna, and Abrahan Ramirez in return.

Serna would become Miami’s 11th prospect while Ramirez would become their fourth-ranked prospect. Before the trade, Chisholm was considered a strong personality for the locker room, but with a high recommendation from Captain Derek Jeter, the Yankees pulled the trigger. It was much needed, since the roster needed some versatility.

Yankees News: Jazz Chisholm Returns From Injury

What was not expected was the impact Jazz Chisholm would make. He would have seven hits, eight RBIs, and four home runs in the first four games as a Yankee. In just 60 plate appearances, his batting average would be .300, while having seven home runs.

The most impressive stat is that his OPS stands at 1.011. Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s stats tell fans that the change of scenery was something that was needed. He was the spark that Aaron Boone needed in the fight for first place in the Eastern Division.

When the season started for the Yankees, Boone did not have a true third baseman. With DJ LeMahieu hurt, they relied on Oswaldo Cabrera. They even tried different combinations that didn’t work. When DJ returned from the injured list, the expectation was he would be the spark, but LeMahieu is still trying to figure out how to hit again.

Although Jazz Chisholm has not played any third base before, he would fill that void. He has not looked back and has been a blessing in disguise until he got hurt.

When the reports came back that it was damage to his UCL, there were a lot of fans worried that the Bahamas native would be out for the rest of the season, but the good news is he needed just 10 days on the IL.

Chisholm would make his return to line up on 8/23 against the Rockies. Although he went 0 for 3 with a strikeout, he made some impressive plays from third which gives fans the hope they need. Jazz can now continue to be the spark he was when they first traded for him.
