Giants Making Terrible Mistake With Latest Quarterback Meeting
NFL free agency is set to kick off next week as players will be finding new homes. The legal tampering period is set to begin on Mar. 11 at 12 p.m. ET and that's when unrestricted free agents can begin speaking to other teams.
But there are players already on the market who are free to speak to teams around the league and the Giants are doing their due diligence.
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, quarterback Russell Wilson met with the New York Giants on Mar. 8 before he traveled to meet with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was spotted taking a picture with a fan at Newark Airport.
Giants Rumors: Russell Wilson Met with New York
Even though it was just a meeting, this comes as a surprise. GM Joe Schoen publicly backed quarterback Daniel Jones, echoing that he was their guy going forward but recent rumors have contradicted those statements.
Buzz around the NFL Scouting Combine was that the Giants were done with Jones and were looking into the quarterback prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft.
So meeting with Wilson is certainly a shocker. After two tumultuous seasons with the Denver Broncos, Wilson was released. The Broncos gave Wilson permission to speak with other teams around the NFL and get a head start on free agency.
Last season, he tossed 3,070 passing yards with 26 passing touchdowns and eight interceptions, which are solid numbers but he struggled to connect with head coach Sean Payton and had a tendency to play off script too often.
New York wouldn't be wise to add a 35-year-old signal caller who has regressed over the past few years.
The New York Giants need to ace this offseason to have a legit shot to win the NFC East. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Giants are +1000 underdogs to win the division. If you want to take lock-in of these odds, head over to FanDuel Sportsbook and claim your sign-up bonus.
