Darren Waller Breaks Silence on Retirement Rumors
The New York Giants thought they hitting a home run when they acquired tight end Darren Waller in March 2023.
The G-Men gave up a 2023 third-round pick for Waller's services to bring the big-time playmaker to town. They wanted to give Daniel Jones a dynamic weapon for last season but that just never materialized.
Jones suffered a torn ACL that clipped his entire year and Waller dealt with multiple hamstring strains, that started right before Week 1.
The Georgia Tech product suited up in 12 games, snagging 52 receptions for 552 yards and one touchdown.
It was a rough season for both sides and things took another turn this offseason. Waller is reportedly complementing retirement. He spoke to members of the organization after the season that he was thinking about stepping away from the game but people in the front office didn't know.
Giants Rumors: Waller Gives an Update on Retirement News
Waller's agent Drew Rosenhaus met with Giants' management at the NFL Scouting Combine and thought the 31-year-old was slated to return in 2024 but that isn't the case.
Waller knows that free agency is set to begin and the Giants are planning for next season. The 2015 sixth-round pick spoke with the Athletic's Dan Duggan and gave an update on talks surrounding his thoughts on retirement.
He said, "I know the team is getting prepared for a new season, so I’m not trying to have it be this drawn-out thing." Waller then added, "I’ll be deciding pretty soon, but I haven’t made a decision yet.”
Although he hasn't made a decision, Waller didn't give a glowing remark about his return.
