The Giants received terrible news when rookie running back Tyrone Tracy suffered an injury in Tuesday's practice. The injury initially looked like it was severe however, reports look promising and the team should get Tracy back at some point.

However, the Giants will likely miss Tracy for some time, potentially including the start of the season. If the injury keeps Tracy out longer than expected, the Giants should consider signing these five running backs.

Dalvin Cook

After spending 2023 with the New York Jets, Dalvin Cook is once again on the market looking for a team. This past season Cook showed his age with the Jets, averaging 3.2 yards per carry and 5.2 yards per reception. The Giants however don't need Cook long-term which means they could rely on Cook early until Tracy returns while Eric Gray steps into the backup role. In 2023, Cook rushed for 214 yards on 67 carries with 78 yards receiving.

Jerick McKinnon

The Giants lose a back that can run with and catch the ball while Tracy recovers from injury. They could get that skillset back for the time being by signing Jerick McKinnon. McKinnon was a key piece for the Chiefs in their back-to-back Super Bowl wins due to his ability in both aspects of the offense. Bringing in McKinnon would give the Giants a capable veteran who comes from a winning culture. In 2023, McKinnon rushed for 60 yards and a touchdown with 192 yards receiving and four touchdowns.

Brandon Bolden

While Brandon Bolden's name doesn't pop off the page compared to some of the other names on this list, he is a player that Brian Daboll is familiar with from his time in New England. Bolden hasn't carried the ball much in his career but, he's a solid receiver, similar to what the Giants had in Tracy. While the latter misses time with his injury, Bolden can help the Giants as a receiving threat and then when Tracy returns, Bolden can be an asset on special teams. In 2023, he only rushed the ball four times for 31 yards and a touchdown.

Leonard Fournette

The Giants don't need a bell cow back but, they do lack a true bruiser at running back that they can use in short yardage situations. Fournette isn't the every down back he was earlier in his career but, at 29 years old its hard to believe that he couldn't be productive. The Giants could certainly get some intel with their connections in Buffalo as Fournette did spend two games their last season. In his two games in Buffalo, Fournette rushed for 40 yards on 12 carries.

Kareem Hunt

We save the best option for last as Kareem Hunt is a player the Giants should've considered signing months ago. Hunt has spent the past few seasons serving the same role he would in New York as the backup to the lead-back. Hunt has continued to show he's capable even after joining the Cleveland Browns after the start of the season and has proven that he can still be effective as a rusher and a receiver. In 2023, Hunt rushed for 411 yards and 9 touchdowns adding a touchdown receiving.
