The story of Antonio Brown has been a rollercoaster, to say the least, but now with his suspension official, should the New York Giants consider the former star?

Two years ago if you were told your team had an opportunity to sign Antonio Brown, you would’ve been foaming at the mouth in hopes of adding the best receiver in the league to your team. That’s exactly what Antonio Brown was, the best wide receiver in the NFL.

Now, Antonio Brown is a free agent who has played only one game since 2018, and it’s not because of injury. It started with a falling out in Pittsburgh, then he signed with Oakland, and then off-the-field issues got in the way of his play on the field, then it was the helmet saga, and then it really got crazy.

Nonetheless, Brown played only one game in 2019, and it was with the New England Patriots. Now, Brown is a free agent, but when he signs with a team he will be forced to serve an eight-game suspension due to multiple violations of the league’s personal conduct policy.

So with that, let me ask you this; should the New York Giants sign Antonio Brown?

Now you probably couldn’t have answered any quicker there as you probably screamed “NO” as soon as you read that, but let’s look at the facts first:

Antonio Brown has been selected to the Pro Bowl seven times, he has led the league in receiving yards and receptions twice each, has led the league in touchdowns once, has had seven seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards, four seasons with 10 touchdowns or more, and numerous other accolades that show just how impressive of a wide receiver he is.

Now, Brown is a free agent and the Giants have the opportunity to sign him in hopes of bolstering their offense, but he comes with quite some baggage. Antonio Brown is a known diva, and if the Giants decide to sign him, they’ll have an even worse situation than they had with Odell Beckham jr., and they traded him because of his shenanigans.

The Giants are known to not tolerate any players who are a distraction to the team, and players who are more worried about the name on the back of the jersey, than the logo on the helmet. If they were to sign Antonio Brown, it would be quite puzzling, to say the least.

On paper, it would be a great move because of how great of a football player he is, but do the pros outweigh the cons?

More from New York Giants

Pros:

  • One of the best wide receivers in football
  • Would give Daniel Jones another target
  • Would add to the Giants’ receiver corps of Golden Tate, Sterling Shepard, and Ereck Flowers
  • Could sign him for almost nothing

Cons:

  • Would serve an eight-game suspension as soon as he is signed
  • Is a huge distraction
  • Hasn’t played in two years
  • Could he get suspended again?
  • Similar situation, but worse as Odell Beckham jr.

At the end of the day, Antonio Brown is just not worth it, he is too much of a question mark to make signing him justifiable. Although he is such a talented wide receiver, and you could sign him for almost nothing, it isn’t worth risking him being such a huge distraction.

So to answer my own question; no the New York Football Giants should not consider signing Antonio Brown.
