New York Giants hope they found Barkley’s Complement
Saquon Barkley was named the top running back in the National Football League, but what happens when he needs to come off the field? The New York Giants think they have the perfect complement, Dion Lewis.
The New York Giants picked up Dion Lewis earlier this year and it largely went unnoticed. However, Lewis can have a major impact on the most important player on the field; Saquon Barkley. Lewis, a New York native, grew up a Giants fan and is looking forward to the opportunity.
Lewis knows he will not start over Saquon Barkley, but he has already played the backup position. In Tennessee, he played behind Derrick Henry and worked to make each other better. He spoke about his time with the Titans and working with Henry,
"“The relationship we had, I wanted nothing but success for him. I was rooting for him. We always helped each other, we were tough on each other. Those two factors made it easy for me to root for him to do well, just because we were close. I knew the type of runner he is. He’s the type of guy that needs to be in the game a lot and gets better with more carries.”"

Lewis will also reunite with the new Giants head coach, Joe Judge. Judge was the Patriots special teams coach while Lewis was in New England. A familiar face should help both feel more comfortable in their first season in the Big Apple.
The team has been searching for a suitable RB backup, and they were looking for a guy who could come in and let Barkley catch his breath. Barkley has always been up for the task of carrying the workload, but at times it’s also hurt the team.
We’ve seen Barkley try to extend plays too much and lose yardage. Wayne Gallman, Jonathan Stewart, and Eli Penny are just some of the players the team tried to pair with Barkley but none really made an impact. Lewis appears to be up for the task of backing up one of the best young players in the league.
Fans should still expect the Giants to have some bumps in the road. They added rookie LT Andrew Thomas who likely will need some time to adjust to the pace and skill level of the National Football League. However, there is so much to be excited about in the future. The team has transitioned to a new era of New York Giants’ football led by Saquon Barkley’s legs and Daniel Jones.
