The 2019-20 NBA Season will resume in Orlando in July with 22 teams, as for the other eight teams, including the New York Knicks, there will now be a Chicago Bubble.

The New York Knicks were one of the eight teams not invited to Orlando for the NBA restart, but now it appears they will be invited to Chicago for training camps and competition. When the NBA season was suspended due to COVID-19, the Knicks were the 12th ranked team in the Eastern Conference.

With 16 games still left on their schedule, the Knicks could have been in a better position at the end of the season to get the top pick in the NBA Draft. Although they weren’t yet eliminated from the playoffs, there was little hope they would be able to sneak in as they were 9.5 games back of the eighth seed with 16 to go.

Now, the Knicks will have the opportunity to play a couple of games instead of going about nine months without competition.

We don’t quite know the details about this second bubble, but it appears as if this is just a way for those eight teams to play a little bit to make it fair. The reason this would make it fair is that 22 other teams get the chance to play and either move into the playoffs or maybe put themselves in a better position for the draft lottery.

As for those other eight teams, they were just going to have to hope for the best, their young players wouldn’t be able to get more experience, and their lottery position was out of their hands.

As for the Knicks, I could see many more players opting out of the Chicago bubble than there are players opting out of the Orlando bubble. The reason for this is because, in the Orlando bubble, you’re playing for a championship and playing to get into the playoffs, at the Chicago bubble, you’re just playing to play, and in all honesty; you’re better off losing as you’d get a better draft lottery position.

We will continue to give updates as they become available, but as of this moment in time, it appears as if the New York Knicks will be invited to Chicago to participate in a bubble for the other eight NBA teams not invited to Orlando.
