On Tuesday morning, the Jets signed veteran running back, Frank Gore to a one-year deal. With Le’veon Bell already in the backfield, what will Gore’s impact be?

The New York Jets signed veteran running back, Frank Gore to a one-year deal on Tuesday morning. This means that Gore will be back for his 16th-season in the NFL playing for a new team for the fifth time in his career.

Although he was on two different teams, Gore has spent the last two seasons in the AFC East, meaning he is well accustomed to playing against AFC East opponents which is a bonus for the Jets.

However, with Le’veon Bell already in the backfield, Gore’s impact will likely not be that large in an on-field role. Gore will however, make a huge impact off the field, by serving in a leadership role and helping out younger players.

Take a look at this video if you haven’t already. That’s Frank Gore telling Adrian Peterson to talk to rookie Devin Singletary. This gesture while small, shows that Frank Gore is clearly a mentor towards younger players and will likely do anything he can to get the best out of them.

However, Gore is more than just a mentor for younger players, the dude can still play. Gore started only eight games last season for the Bills, but he still managed to rush for 599 yards, two touchdowns and zero fumbles.

What this goes to tell you is Gore is going to be a guy off the bench the Jets can use to get Le’veon Bell some rest and still not lose that much productivity. The Jets are trending upwards and Frank Gore is undoubtedly a huge plus to serve both in a leadership position and as a backup running back to Bell.

My guess is that Gore will get between 150 and 200 touches this season going for around 550-700 yards for the Jets and a couple touchdowns to go with it. If this is the case and that’s what the Jets get out of Gore, then signing him would 100% be the right move.

Frank Gore is a guy who you know what you’re going to get out of, he has a huge upside and no real downside going into his 16th season.
