1. Ron Rivera

Ron Rivera, former head coach of the Panthers, did a great job in his eight years with Carolina. He led them to three straight NFC South Division championships between 2014 and 2016. That includes a 15-1 record in 2015 and an NFC Championship that year.

Rivera is known for his aggressive tactics and has been given the name ‘Riverboat Ron’ because of it. But it’s his defensive background that got him the head coaching position in Carolina. He was a member of the 1985 Bears team that won the Super Bowl and has since been dubbed the best defense in NFL History.

Ron Rivera’s resume:

  • Linebacker for the Chicago Bears (1984-1992)
  • Bears defensive quality control coach (1997-98)
  • Eagles linebackers coach (1999-2003)
  • Bears defensive coordinator (2004-06)
  • Chargers linebackers coach (2007)
  • Chargers defensive coordinator (2008-10)
  • Panthers head coach (2011-2019)
  • 2013 & 2015 NFL Coach of the Year
  • 2005 PFWA Assistant Coach of the Year
  • 73-63-1 overall record as head coach
  • 3-4 playoff record as head coach

You won’t be able to find a single candidate more qualified than Ron Rivera to be the next Big Blue head coach. In addition, Giants GM Dave  Gettleman was the Panthers general manager from 2013-17, meaning he has a history with Rivera.

Ron Rivera would bring everything the New York Giants are looking for in a head coach and more. He has an impeccable defensive background. Additionally, his offenses have played very well during his tenure. As an NFL head coach, he has more than proved himself.

Bringing him in to teach the young Giants defenders like Dexter Lawrence, Deandre Baker would be invaluable. Rivera would undoubtedly help the Big Blue D, who is currently ranked 28th in the league. Expect Rivera to be in the conversation for the next Giants head coach come seasons end, especially if Dave Gettleman is still around.
