Monday night the New York Knicks turned adversity into a 105-98 victory. They were led by Bobby Portis who took it to his former team.

After starting the season with three losses, the New York Knicks were looking to get their first win of the season against the 1-3 Chicago Bulls. With the pressure on, the Knicks delivered and Bobby Portis led a late Knicks comeback.

The Knicks pulled out a 105-98 win, but were down until the final minutes. They didn’t take a lead until 1:47 remaining in the fourth quarter. Center Bobby Portis scored a season-high 28 points, including a three-pointer that gave the Knicks their first lead of the game. Portis was all over the court, fighting hard against his former team. He sank 10-of-14 shots, Portis tied the game and then won it for the Knicks, both three-pointers.

More from New York Knicks

The start of this game looked like it would be another addition to the New York Knicks losing streak. They opened by shooting 2-of-14, Julius Randle was a disappointment, he was the source of several setbacks. In the first possession, Randle traveled, the first of his six turnovers. His sloppiness helped Chicago take an early18-6 lead.

Opening a game with six turnovers is not ideal. It seems like each game the Knicks automatically start in a 10 point hole. Although the Knicks won this game, free throws were another problem for the team. 10 free throws were missed. Also, their defense still needs work.

On the bright side, fans got to see that this Knicks team can complete a comeback. They heated up the late third quarter, which led the Knicks to a win. Bobby Portis was strong offensively as was RJ Barrett. The rookie had 19 points and 15 rebounds. While it’s only been four games, Barrett has made his talent known in New York.

The Knicks aren’t on pace for an amazing season, but this first win is what they needed to get on the right track. This team fights back, it might not always be a win. They aren’t the same pushovers as the were last year.
