Last Week

Vikings

Minnesota dropped a defensive struggle at Chicago last week 16-6. Their offense was stagnant after a good showing the week before against Oakland. Without much of a ground game, the much-maligned Kirk Cousins was forced to throw 36 times. His porous offensive line was no match for the Bears as Cousins was sacked six times and fumbled twice.

Minnesota’s defense gave up 16 points and 269 yards. The Vikings also knocked Chicago quarterback Mitchell Trubisky out of the game late, but the damage was done by then. The D gave the team a chance to win but Cousins and Co. couldn’t capitalize.

Leaders:

  • QB Kirk Cousins – 27/36 for 233 yards, 2 fumbles.
  • RB Dalvin Cook – 14 carries, 35 yards, 1 TD, 6 receptions, 35 yards.
  • WR Stefon Diggs – 7 receptions, 108 yards.
  • LB Eric Kendricks – 11 tackles
  • CB Xavier Rhodes – 8 tackles, 1 tackle fo.r loss, 1 pass defended.

Giants

Big Blue, on the other hand, kept on rolling, they beat the struggling Washington Redskins 24-3. The G-Men jumped out to a 14 point lead on their first two possessions en route to a 24-3 victory. It was more than enough because Washington had no answers for the Giants defense, they were held to 178 total yards.

While the Giants offense wasn’t exactly lights out, they did what needed to be done. Big Blue put up 389 yards offense. Unfortunately, two lost fumbles and two interceptions showed the Giants are still a work in progress.

More from New York Giants

Leaders

  • QB Daniel Jones – 23/31 for 225 yards, 1 TD, 2 interceptions, 5 carries, 33 yards.
  • RB Wayne Gallman – 18 carries, 63 yards, 1 TD, 1 fumble, 6 receptions, 55 yards, 1 TD.
  • WR Sterling Shepard – 7 receptions, 76 yards.
  • S Jabrill Peppers – 4 tackles, 2 passes defended, 1 pick-six.
  • LB Ryan Connelly – 5 tackles, 1 sack, 1 interception.

This Week

Minnesota will be the stiffest test yet for the New York Giants emerging offense. There aren’t many weak spots for Daniel Jones to exploit. It is, however, his first game with playmaking wide receiver Golden Tate in the lineup. Expect the G-Men to try and establish the run early with Wayne Gallman to get their receivers a little more room to work with. That may include Jones taking off on some run/ pass options.

Kirk Cousins has two fantastic receivers at his disposal, Diggs and Adam Thielen. The problem for Minnesota has been that their big-money quarterback has been less than effective, averaging only 184 yards per game. Still, NYG’s secondary will need to be on top of their game. Additionally, with the New York Giants missing their three best middle linebackers from the lineup, other players will need to step up to fill the void.
