Players to start this week

Golden Tate – WR, NYG

If Daniel Jones was the sorcerer to save the New York Giants season, Golden Tate is the sorcerer’s apprentice. He was the big free agent acquisition who signed a four-year $37.5M contract. That big money means he needs to provide big production.

Sunday will be his first game back from suspension, but Tate is a player looking to get involved early. He was Matthew Stafford’s number one in Detroit and the pair had lots of success. He is projected to score six points at least this week given Daniel Jones will have to throw the ball due to a stalled running attack.

There is one lead that is buried beneath everything else. It is a familiar opponent for Tate. He played the Vikings twice a year and knows how to play against this defense. If he cannot provide enough support on the field, he probably did his mentoring in the WR room to help the game plan for this week.

Sterling Shepard – WR, NYG

This is a player who does not get enough credit in the league. Sterling Shepard has developed into a fantastic number two WR with the ceiling of a great number one. Daniel Jones looks to him early and often, like I mentioned last week.

In the previous two games, he has scored 10 points and 20 points. Scoring 10 points against Minnesota would not be a surprise with at least five receptions, 45 yards, and a goal-line touchdown. He also provides a great threat out of the backfield on the jet sweep. That running play has proven to be successful in the past few weeks.

How can both Tate and Shepard share the football against the Vikings? Simple. This is Tate’s first week back. He has fresh legs that the offense could use. Shepard, on the other hand, has been here the previous few weeks. He knows the playbook better and has developed chemistry with Jones. It will be a tough matchup, but there will be many targets thrown his way.

More from New York Giants

Adam Thielen – WR, MIN

Did you know Kirk Cousins had a podcast? It is called Under Center with Kirk Cousins. The title should be changed to “Over Paid,” but that is for a different time. On the podcast this week, one of his guests was Adam Thielen. Cousins apologized to Thielen after his WR called him out saying he was not getting enough passes.

That type of bonding can create big change in a relationship. Expect Thielen to get more looks this week against a Giants defense that has allowed receivers such as Amari Cooper and Mike Evans to score over 16 points. Thielen himself has averaged 9 points per game and that is including the stinker he had last week against Chicago.

Thielen was a number one fantasy WR last season and this season is no different. Trust as an owner in what he provided last year, and you will not be disappointed. Adam Thielen will be on next week’s podcast saying, “I told you so.”
