Last Week

Tampa Bay

The Bucs pulled out a win in Carolina, 20-14. They didn’t score a touchdown until their final drive of the first half on a 20-yard pitch and catch from Jameis Winston to Chris Goodwin. It was a lead Tampa Bay never relinquished. On the day, TB had 289 yards of total offense. Their defense let up 352 yards and recorded no turnovers, but they did sack Cam Newton three times.

Leaders:

  • QB Jameis Winston – 16/25, 198 yards, 1 TD.
  • RB Peyton Barber – 23 carries, 81 yards, 1 TD, 1 reception, 7 yards.
  • WR Chris Godwin – 8 receptions, 121 yards, 1 TD.
  • LB Shaquil Barrett – 3 sacks.
  • CB Vernon Hargraves – 12 tackles, 1 pass defended.

New York Giants

This was a tough game for Big Blue as the G-Men lost their home opener to Buffalo 28-14. Even though they closed the gap to a touchdown in the fourth quarter, it felt like the Giants were never really a threat to win this game. Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen has his choice of wide-open receivers all day. The Bills could have scored more points had he been on his game a bit more. Eli Manning for his part did well with what he had to work with, leading the Giants offense. Saquon Bakley had another 100+ yard game.

Leaders:

QB Eli Manning – 26/45, 250 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs.

RB Saquon Barkley – 18 carries, 107 yards, 1 TD, 3 receptions, 28 yards.

WR Evan Engram – 6 receptions, 48 yards

S Markus Golden – 6 tackles, 1 sack, 2 QB hits.

This Week

If you are a New York Giants, you know the big story this week. Rookie quarterback Daniel Jones makes his first career NFL start. Giants head coach Pat Shurmur decided to bench the man who holds just about every important franchise passing record, Eli Manning. Jones will get a little help for the game as wide receiver Sterling Shepard returns after missing last week’s loss against Buffalo.

Tampa’s offense has been largely stagnant this season. Even so, the Bucs feature two good receivers Mike Evans and the emerging Chris Godwin. Expect QB Jameis Winston to pick on cornerback DeAndre Baker. The G-Men might have a chance to get to the first overall pick of 2015, Winston has been sacked six times so far this season.

I’d like to say the Giants will win this game, but their lack of talent hurts them. The Tampa Bay defense is going to come after Jones from every conceivable blitz package they can come up with. I do however expect Big Blue to put up a good fight.
