Heroes of Game 2

Once again no players from the New York Giants defense made the Heroes side. That should come as no surprise to anyone that watched the game.

Honorable Mention – Antonio Hamilton and Cody Core. The pair teamed up on a sensational play to avoid a touchback and pin Buffalo on their own two-yard line in the second quarter.

TJ Jones

He would have been higher had he not miss communicated with Manning on a fourth and 10 in the fourth quarter while his team still had a “chance” to come back, as well as his penalties. On the bright side, Jones made a great endzone catch in the fourth quarter for the Giants second touchdown of the game. It was one of his three receptions for 38 yards on Sunday.

Jones’ biggest highlight, however, was his late second quarter, 60-yard punt return. He backpedaled to his own seven-yard line to receive the punt. Taking off like a bullet from a gun, Jones blew through the Buffalo punt coverage, before he was brought down inside the Bills 30. It’s been a long time since the New York Giants had a legitimate return specialist, T.J. Jones could add another dimension to this team.

More from New York Giants

Riley Dixon

A sure sign that any team had a bad game is when their punter was one of their best players. Dixon punted five times for 242 yards, a 48.4-yard average. Bills punt returner Micah Hyde only returned two of them for a total of six yards. That made Dixon’s net, 47.6 yards per punt. He bailed out Big Blue several times with his ability to flip the field.

Saquon Barkley

Saquon Barkley was the New York Giants best player once again on Sunday. Pat Shurmur rode his thoroughbred on the opening drive and Barkley responded with runs of six and 14 yards, before the above-mentioned 27-yard scamper that put Big Blue on the scoreboard for the game’s first points. At least this week Shurmur didn’t completely back away from using his bell-cow back.

The former Penn State star carried the ball 18 times for 107 yards. He was the only running back to get a handoff all day. Barkley added three catches for 28 yards. It was a very strong performance considering the other factors Big Blue was dealing with. Without a decent receiving threat on the outside, Buffalo double-covered tight end Evan Engram and stacked the box against Barkley. He thrived despite the fact Buffalo keyed on him every time he was on the field.
