New York Knicks: How Kevin Knox can take a step up this season
By Alan Mena
Offensive versatility
In five NBA Summer League games this summer (Las Vegas), Knox averaged 16.8 PPG, 5.6 RPG, 2.0 APG, 1.0 steals, 0.8 blocks, 40 FG%, in 29.6 minutes per game. Also, Knox led the New York Knicks squad in scoring in both of his Summer League appearances, which is always a great sign.
His best performance in this year’s Summer League was in a win against the Los Angeles Lakers, where he recorded an impressive all-around line: 25 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. He was seven-of-12 from the floor, including two-of-five from beyond the arc. Additionally, Knox connected on nine-of-12 from the charity stripe in 24 minutes of action.

While Knox did lead the Knicks last summer in scoring as well at a higher average (21.2 PPG), he was surrounded by more talent this time around. Despite the improved cast, Knox was able to showcase his improved scoring ability in those five games played.
Final thoughts
During his five summer league games, Knox looks more confident and willing to take over the offense more so than his rookie season. In his sophomore season, Knox needs to focus on letting the game come to him, maintain consistent production on both ends of the floor, and continue being aggressive in transition.
If Knox continues to improve, which he will, the former Kentucky Wildcats standout will solidify his starting spot at the small forward position and become an even more integral piece of Fizdale’s offense.
