Giants will finish among the top 10 in defense/special teams rankings

Many of the people reading this either laughed or spat out their coffee when they saw this. Don’t be so quick to dismiss this point though. It’s not so far fetched even though the New York Giants finished near the bottom of the pack in 2018.

As mentioned above, Big Blue’s offensive line will be vastly improved. That means the Giants will do a better job of controlling the clock and flipping the field so the defense shouldn’t be on the field as much with the end zone ominously close to their backs.

Next, the G-men have been one of the poorest teams in the league when it comes to recovering fumbles. Somewhere along the line, the ball has to bounce their way and this is the year. Additionally, the defensive backfield is improved over last year, they should get even more picks than they have been.

As for special teams, even though Corey Coleman will miss the entire season with an ACL tear, the Giants have some talent in the return game. Jabrill Peppers is a top-10 punt returner. Last year he averaged 8.6 yards per return.

Big Blue could do much worse than Cody Latimer running back kicks. Over his career, he has been very productive with an average of 24.4 yards in 23 chances. Between Peppers, Latimer, and possibly TJ Jones, someone will run one back in 2019 for a score.
