Rashan Gary

Brooks Austin, NFL Mocks

Dave Gettleman has shown through his year as the New York Football Giants general manager, and for that matter his time in Carolina as well, a tendency to depend upon the measurable and intangible guys. So, I believe he will take a guy here at six that’s more than fits his “measurables” department, and that’s Rashan Gary.

At 6-4, 277-pounds, running a 4.58 40-yard dash, I can just hear Gettleman already. Saying “If I can just get my hands on him, he will produce the numbers.” Everyone knows that these two picks, six and 17 are inevitably tied together. So, this shot at Rashan Gary here at six is to hope their other guy actually falls to them at 17.

More from New York Giants

Ed Stein, Empire Writes Back

Throughout this draft season, I had doubts about Dwayne Haskins going to the New York Giants with the sixth pick. He may be the best QB prospect in this draft, but there are too many question marks about his inexperience for the Giants to gamble the franchise on. I still believe they find a way to package their second round pick with something else to get Josh Rosen from Arizona as Big Blue’s next quarterback.

There is an outside chance Quinnen Williams falls in their lap, but more than likely the Bama defensive tackle will be gone. That means Big Blue selects Michigan defensive end Rashan Gary from Michigan. He is an exciting pass rusher who has an outstanding combination of quickness, speed, and strength. It will be fun to see someone on the Giants generate pressure on opposing quarterbacks again.

Matthew Travis, Empire Writes Back

Rashan Gary, defensive end, University of Michigan. Rashan Gary is a great player who like Quinnen Williams from Alabama, struck fear in opposing quarterbacks. Gary is 6-5, 283 pounds and in 2018 he had 38 total tackles with 3.5 sacks for a loss of 6.5 yards.

With the Giants defense currently in shambles with the trade of both Damon Harrison and Olivier Vernon plus Landon Collins signing with the Redskins, the Giants need a defensive player at six and Rashan Gary should be that guy.

Mike Esposito, Empire Writes Back

Dwayne Haskins is the popular pick here in most mocks, but Dave Gettleman’s recent comments about drafting for need may indicate that the Giants are heading in a different direction when they’re on the clock. That being said, Big Blue will probably take Rashan Gary at sixth overall, who should be the best player on the board if the draft pans out as many expect.

The Michigan product doesn’t have the body of work that some of the other defensive line prospects have (9.5 career sacks in college), but he’s a physical freak (6-foot-4, 277 pounds, 4.58 speed) and has a tremendous upside. With a little coaching, the 21-year-old has the potential to become a versatile pass-rushing force, capable of playing defensive end or on the edge in New York’s 3-4 defense.
