2. No Second Round Pick

We talked a bit about this on the last page but it does deserve its own slide. As it stands right now, the Jets do not have a second round pick. That is something that needs to change, if possible.

Again, Sam Darnold was the result of the Jets giving up their second round pick. No Jets fan on the map will tell you that’s a bad thing. It would be difficult to imagine still going through life without a quarterback.

OK, maybe not difficult. We certainly did that for enough years in the past. It would be hard to fathom, though, now that we have seen the other side.

But, now that it is a year later, this is the time to attempt to replace that second round pick. The only realistic way that is going to happen is by trading out of the third pick.

Now, until things change, there will be an underlying narrative with the Jets and the second round of the draft. The narrative is that the team doesn’t need a second round pick because they don’t know how to pick one anyway.

The evidence does support this narrative. With Devin Smith and Christian Hackenberg on his resume, it seems reasonable to argue that Maccagnan should be kept away from the second round.

That doesn’t mean you stop trying. The Jets need to fill holes. To fill holes, and do it in a sustainable way, they need draft picks. If they can acquire more, and that includes a second round pick, you do it.
