1. More Draft Picks will Build a Foundation

More from Empire Writes Back

Building a team is very much like building a house. Even a Lego house.

The top can look as flashy as anything. It might even appear spectacular. But, if the foundation isn’t solid, it will all fall apart.

The same goes for a football team. If the foundation isn’t any good than the team won’t be good for any sustained period of time.

Mike Maccagnan has always stated he wants to build through the draft. That has been his mantra since he arrived in 2015.

He hasn’t done it well, lately. Many of us have thought he didn’t deserve the chance to come back. Now that he is back, he has the chance to fix it and it starts here with the 2019 draft.

The Jets only have six picks in this draft as it stands right now. That doesn’t even amount to one pick per round. That doesn’t give the team a lot of chance to improve through the draft process in a few weeks.

Now, some of that is because they acquired the number three pick last year, and that turned into Sam Darnold. Nobody is necessarily angry about the number of picks.

However, if the Jets can increase that number they absolutely need to do it. That means they need to trade down.
