It is really tough for me to look at less than one season and think it is an ample sample size, it just is not. Even though it feels like David Fizdale has been here forever, he has not. So I just do not know outright if he is the right guy for the re-build. However, what I can say is that I think he has done a decent job so far.

More from New York Knicks

This might be a hot take, but the Knicks objective is to lose. They know the value in having the worst record and being guaranteed a top-five pick in the NBA Draft. They know the value of having a real chance of getting Zion Williamson or really anyone from Duke. If the objective is to lose, Fizdale has coached that to perfection. Or in other words, he excels at what is asked of him, even though losing isn’t right, he is really good at it.

Then for a bonus, this take is less hot, you look at what he has done with a player like Mitchell Robinson. Once Robinson got healthy, he has played fantastic. It is really he and Kevin Knox who are the guys that got here around the same time as Fiz and they both look great. He has succeeded with “his” players.

It takes a special kind of coach to help his players become good and do what is asked of him, even if that is orchestrating organized chaos. Next year we must simply see improvement, then more and more each year. After that, then maybe we can know for sure if he is the right man for the New York Knicks job. I would like to think he is, but there are a lot of moving parts.
