Here we have five characteristics that the New York Jets must find in their new head coach. Without that the team has a long wait for another title.

New York Jets fans, this is a very important time. Arguably it is the most important off-season the team has had in ages.

With Todd Bowles gone after four seasons, this choice of a new coach is going to be huge. It will go a long way to shape an important period in Jets history.

Mark Sanchez, Geno Smith, Bryce Petty, Christian Hackenberg, and to a lesser extent Kellen Clemens have one thing in common. They were hurt by very poor coaching around them. The team actually stunted the growth of each one of these players.

Whomever they decide to pick is going to be critical to the development of Sam Darnold. These are the years that will make him or break him. The Jets have to get this one right. Fans will forget about the misses if they get this one right.

So who are they going to hire? You can follow the process at our coaching candidate tracker to see all of the information on the names.

We could debate all day every day about who they should select as there are fair arguments all over the map here.

Instead, what are the important characteristics needed? Today we look at five characteristics needed in the next Jets head coach.
