The New York Jets face the Houston Texans on Saturday afternoon at MetLife Stadium. Looking at the situation, here are the two real reasons to watch.

Welcome to week 15, New York Jets fans. In an NFL special, the Jets continue to play out the string of another lost season by hosting Deshaun Watson and the rest of the Houston Texans.

After a week 14 win over Buffalo the Jets enter the game with a record of 4-9. Even with a week 14 loss to the Colts, the Texans still enter the game with a 9-4 record and a two game lead in the AFC South.

The biggest news coming out of this week was the end of Isaiah Crowell‘s season and potentially his time with the Jets. He was placed on IR on Friday and replaced by De’Angelo Henderson from the practice squad. Elijah McGuire and Trenton Cannon will lead the backfield against the Texans.

The Jets lead the all-time series between these two teams with a 5-2 record. However, Houston has won the last two, the most recent loss coming in 2015.

Why watch this game? It’s at a weird time. It’s not as if the game has any type of playoff implications.

Truth be told, this one has the making of getting really ugly for the Jets. Why should we watch this game?

We could talk as we did about the secondary vs. the Texans receivers. We could also review once again, how the Jets need to keep the quarterback upright.

However, when we get right down to it, there are two simple reasons to watch this game.

Their names are Sam Darnold and Jamal Adams.

In other words, the two young faces of the franchise.

Adams gets a lot of attention for his vocal leadership and the things he has said off of the field. But the fact of the matter is he has been all over the field in his sophomore season and has taken his game to another level.

Against Buffalo he only posted two tackles. That was by far his lowest output of the season, as he posted a minimum of four tackles in every other game. He has 90 combined tackles thus far, 12 passes defended, eight tackles for loss, seven quarterback hits, three forced fumbles, 2.5 sacks, a fumble recover and an interception.

As the Pro Bowl vote was heading down the homestretch, Adams was leading at his position. They will announce the rosters on Tuesday.

It’s always exciting to watch him turn up at all points all over the field.

And then of course we have the aforementioned Sam Darnold. We are all aware of his importance.

This discussion happened earlier in the week but it deserves repeating. The 2018 season will be judged by the development of Darnold. We can worry about draft position later.

Darnold just led his first game-winning drive of his career last week against the Bills. He faces an extremely tough defense in the Texans, ranked 8th in DVOA by Football Outsiders.

Simply to see if Darnold can keep the momentum going makes the game worth watching.

These two guys are our future. Tune in and watch them grow.
